Prairie Quilt {FREE fat quarter quilt pattern!}

Now that the Snowfall Sew Along has come to an end, I’m back to sharing some fun new tutorials. This month I decided to use this gorgeous fat quarter bundle of Whimsical Romance. I think this collection is beautiful for a fall quilt, even though it isn’t the “traditional” fall colors.

It’s a fat quarter friendly pattern that finishes at 72” square. The block that makes up this quilt is the traditional Illinois state quilt block. Since Illinois is also called the Prairie State, I decided to name this quilt Prairie :)

The block itself is made up of two of my favorite quilt elements, half square triangles and flying geese. I also opted to go for a larger block size to utilize more of each fat quarter, with each block finishing at 18”. Bonus - larger blocks = less blocks = quicker quilt!! :)

For the quilting, I did my standard straight lines and love the texture.

This fall quilt will look much better in our home than the traditional browns, tans, oranges. I love the modern look to it as well.
