Double Square Quilt {fat quarter quilt tutorial}

When I first saw these beautiful Blue Escape Coastal fabrics by Lisa Audit, I just knew I needed to make something with them. Aren’t the colors and prints so beautiful and soothing?

It is amazing to me how it’s possible to transform watercolor art into fabric…I have no idea how they do it, but I’m thankful they can! This fabric is just hitting stores, so I’m waiting on my backing fabric to arrive before I get it quilted up. The design I chose for these fabrics is called Double Square. I like how the blocks create the illusion of two squares, hence the name 😉

By alternating the direction of the lights/darks in the block layout, it creates a striking secondary design in the quilt.

This is a fat quarter friendly pattern and uses 16 fat quarters to make the 16 blocks. The only additional fabric you’ll need is for the sashing and cornerstones blocks. The finished size of this quilt is 66” square. Of course you could always use more fat quarters to create more blocks if you’d like to make a bigger quilt.

Once it is quilted, I’m planning to bind it in the same + fabric that was used for the cornerstone blocks.

The below video shares a tutorial on how to piece the blocks and finish the quilt layout.
