Star Chain {a FREE Layer Cake quilt pattern}

When I first saw Tasha Noel’s fabric collection, Quilt Fair, I knew I had get some! I love the bright primary colors and sweet quilt inspired prints. It took me a while to decide exactly what I wanted to make with this collection, but knew I wanted it to include some traditional quilt elements like stars. After a few initial sketches, I decided to pair those stars with a fun chain pattern. And that is how Star Chain was created :)

I decided to use a different fabric for the points on my stars in an effort to make this quilt feel extra “scrappy” and I love how it turned out.

One of the best things about this quilt is that it can be made with pre-cut 10” squares!! My quilt finishes at 72” square, but you could also choose a different layout for a 60” x 84” quilt (perfect for a twin bed!).

It’s difficult to choose a favorite print from Quilt Fair, but those tiny strawberries are certainly in the running! I also love Tasha’s addition of the soft yellow, pink and aqua to the bright red, blue and green. It creates such a well balanced collection.

For the backing, I chose the pretty navy floral print and finished it off with the perfectly fitting quilty chain print for the binding.

I can see this quilt in so many different fabrics and also think it would look great with stars that have matching points!
