Sugarplum tree skirt {a finished project!!}

I'm back today to share what I made with the rest of my Winter Tales fabric by Minki Kim for Riley Blake Designs.  I absolutely fell in love with this fabric from the moment I saw those sweet little fox and penguins. The colors are not traditionally what you see in holiday sewing, but I think they are a refreshing palette that I hope will compliment the decor of the receiver of this tree skirt :) Sugarplum tree skirt by Amanda Castor of Material Girl Quilts {pattern by @evquilts in Issue 66 of Love Patchwork & Quilting}

I found the Sugarplum tree skirt pattern, designed by Evie Jespersen in Issue 66 of Love Patchwork & Quilting.  Last year at Christmas time, I received a request from my step-mom for a new tree skirt and I knew this pattern would be perfect (and just in time for Christmas this year - whew!!).

I love the improv look of this tree skirt.  It makes such a fun scrappy star design once the wedges are all sewn together.

Since you sew the strips directly onto batting, I simply quilted it in the ditch between the wedges once I added the backing.  It was quick, simple and didn't take away from the busy design.

I tried to get some good photos of the skirt in use under our tree today before I delivered it, but it's rainy and gloomy, so they aren't the best shots.  I think you can still tell that this fabric and pattern combination will certainly make for a cheery focal point for her holiday decor.

Do you have your tree up yet?  I put ours up early and I'm so happy I did.  I'll be enjoying the lights for a couple of weeks longer this year :)
