Picnic In The Shade {a finished quilt and tutorial}

cover

I'm happy to share my latest Moda Bake Shop tutorial with you today!  This is Picnic In The Shade and I am so pleased with how it turned out.  The fabric line used in this quilt is PB&J by Basic Grey and it is amazing.  It's beautiful and so soft.  I used a FQ bundle, but only needed 16 fat quarters for the quilt, so I'm happy to have a number of them left for my stash :)

Moda Bake Shop's theme for May is "all about color" and we were told that we could not use any white background fabrics.  Instead they wanted to see some pop of color.  I chose to use the PB&J Grunge fabric in Picnic as my background.  Blue has always been my favorite color (pretty much all shades of blue!), so it's no surprise that I chose this dark navy to showcase the other beautiful tones in the PB&J line.

We have had a number of days filled with rain lately, so I took a picture of the quilt on my Great Grandmother's iron bed that is at my Mother's house.  It fits perfectly!  In fact, I think she was hoping I'd just leave it there with her ;-)

My favorite fabric on this quilt is also used on the back.  It is called Daisy Mae, which is actually the same name as our first boxer who left us too soon due to cancer.  I'm not going to lie, when I opened the package on the day it was delivered, my eyes filled with tears at its beauty and the memories of our silly girl.

That may be one of the reasons why I love this quilt so much, but another reason is because I know that we will create a lifetime full of wonderful picnic memories using this quilt.  And that is just another one of the amazing gifts of quilts.

I think this picture below is my favorite.  Sam and Polly reading and hanging out at the park together.  It doesn't get much better than that :)
